About the museum
The poet Alojz Gradnik, one of the greatest Slovenian poets of the 20th century, was born in Medana on 3 August 1882. By profession he was a judge; he served in Gorizia, Pula, Zagreb and Ljubljana, where he died on 14 July 1967. He wrote love and death lyrics, poetry for children and young people, and translated Shakespeare, Byron, Dante, Leopardi and Tagore.
In the same house Ludvik Zorzut was born on 24 August 1892. He was the first director of the Goriški muzej (1951–1953) and devoted himself to collecting and writing about the ethnological heritage and history of the Brda and Primorska regions.
The collection brings the life stories of both figures to life through personal objects, editions of their works, awards and documents. The restored and furnished hearth, which represents the living culture of the Brda region at the time of their births, is the centrepiece around which Zorzut's poems are displayed.
