About the museum
The museum was inaugurated and opened to the public in 1994 and is located in the basement of the Pastena town hall, a 19th-century building. The rooms recall the old oil mill, an activity that bears witness to the economic and social importance of olive oil production in the town; the building was constructed in 1879 by the Trani family, local notables.
The route occupies thirteen themed rooms, including the Sala Frantoio, the Sala dei Mestieri, the Sala da Letto and the Sala Lavorazione del Grano, with work tools, objects of tradition and domestic spaces such as the kitchen and the bedroom. The objects on display belong to citizens who contributed to the display with their donations.
The exhibition also recalls local festivals and customs, including the Maggio, a rite combining pagan elements with Christian devotion. Visits are accompanied.
