About the museum

The museum is located in the heart of the medieval village of Mombaroccio, beneath the main square, in rooms that once served as the cellars of the former Girolomini convent, built in the 15th century. Today these spaces are part of the San Marco monumental complex, which also includes the Museo dell’Arte Sacra and other exhibition sections.

The collection occupies twelve vaulted rooms covering more than 320 square metres and is recognised by the Region as one of the most complete of its kind in the Marche. Hundreds of original objects and tools, dating from the 18th to the 20th century, document the farm work and domestic life of the rural communities of the Marche hinterland.

The route recreates rooms and scenes of everyday life: the kitchen of a farmhouse, the ice house (neviera) for storing ice, the room for processing olive oil, the cellar and the storeroom, as well as the workshops of the carpenter, the shoemaker and the blacksmith, and sections on weaving, harvesting and field work. A threshing machine from the early 20th century recalls the shift to mechanised farming, while a separate section covers milling along the Arzilla stream, with finds from fourteen historic mills. A collection of old photographs completes the visit.
