About the museum
The museum preserves the memory of the Pie Artigiane Cristiane, an association that offered vocational training to young women of the parishes of Candelara and Novilara. It was founded in 1928 in Novilara by Mgr Terenzio Cecchini together with Elvira Bartolucci and Annetta Talevi; the Candelara branch was established in 1942 at the wish of Mgr Elio Franca.
The Pro Loco di Candelara began studying this experience in 2012 and in 2015 signed a two-year agreement to manage the former workshop, now set up as a museum on the ground floor of the association's headquarters.
The collection includes looms for blankets and wool rugs and an antique yarn loom, industrial and treadle sewing machines, about a thousand catalogued designs, buttons, threads and handmade items, as well as works, ceramics and lace by Egizia Bazzicaluppi, with clothes, hats, bags and umbrellas. Diplomas, medals, historical photographs and a digital archive complete the display.
