About the museum

The museum has been based in Buttrio since 1998, in the west wing of the Villa di Toppo-Florio, an early 18th-century noble residence set in a park of archaeological and botanical interest. The core of the collection, around 3,500 objects, documents and images relating to the vine and wine, was donated to the municipality by Geremia Nonini. The museum also has a library of more than a thousand books and journals on wine.

The new display was inaugurated on 25 November 2023. The route runs over three floors: it begins with the history of wine culture and the relationship between soil, climate and vineyard, then moves on to training systems, regional grape varieties, vineyard care and the grape harvest, documented by a collection of photographs.

The upper floors are devoted to the cellar, covering the vinification of white, red and rosé wine and sparkling wine, storage and ageing, glasses and original labels. The last room, named after the journalist Isi Benini, displays a selection of wines from local producers and is also used for tastings, events and conferences.
