About the museum
The museum was founded to preserve the historical memory of the traditions and economic activities that shaped the identity of Orciano di Pesaro, now a hamlet of the municipality of Terre Roveresche. It belongs to the network of municipal museums, together with the Museo Ipogeo di Piagge, the MuSA in San Giorgio and the museum in Barchi.
The visit begins at the reception desk, where the museum’s three symbolic objects are displayed: a kiln cart, a coil of rope and an agricultural tool. The first room is devoted to the brick: the historical and photographic documentation of the Fornace di Orciano is displayed alongside finished products and examples of different masonry techniques, such as single, double and triple-wythe walls, rubble walls, the full round arch and a floor with a roof of coppi and tegole (Italian roof tiles). An educational video shows the brick production process.
The second room presents the work of the rope-makers, who were famous in the area for their skill and were also sought after by the Fano fishing fleet for the rigging of its boats. After the raw materials, the tools of the trade are presented, such as shaping forms, girelle and garbini, with panels and images. The complete machinery is shown with ropes in production, along with a rich sample collection of ropes. Agricultural tools place the craft in its rural setting. A separate room is dedicated to the sculptor Giò Pomodoro, born in Orciano: the visit ends in the small square where his birthplace stood and where his work “Sole Deposto” can be seen.
