About the museum
The museum was founded in 1997 as a project of the local lower secondary school: pupils searched for and collected objects in the countryside, in cellars and in the craft workshops of the village, and the collection has grown over time. Its aim is to bring back to life, through the objects, the everyday world of peasant civilisation.
Castel San Lorenzo has always been a village of wine and oil, and the collection reflects this: barrels, goatskin containers, vats, presses and filters. Also on display are sickles for wheat, pasta-shaping irons, mouse traps and tools for processing pigs, as well as tools of the craft trades of wood, stone, iron and wicker weaving.
According to the sources available, the museum is housed in the former town hall in Piazza Umberto I and is open all year round with free admission.
