About the museum
The museum was established in 1997 in the clock tower of Serre, the former town hall, which overlooks Corso Vittorio Emanuele at the entrance to the oldest part of the village. The location and the name “civiltà contadina”, preferred to the more common label of demo-ethno-anthropological museum, reflect the nature of the collection.
The collection is a substantial body of material typical of rural life, donated by the people of Serre themselves to their community. The objects, worn by use and time, document working, domestic, folkloric and devotional traditions and serve to pass on knowledge of them to future generations.
