About the museum
The Museo naturalistico degli Alburni opened in 1997 in a palazzo in the historic centre of Corleto Monforte, at the foot of the Monti Alburni, in the heart of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. It is run by the Fondazione I.RI.DI.A. (Istituto di Ricerca e Didattica Ambientale).
The permanent sections present European vertebrates and invertebrates: a rich collection of birds, more than sixty species of mammals, decapod crustaceans from the Mediterranean and over 20,000 insect specimens.
The museum also deals with the relationship between people and the environment, protecting and promoting the ethno-anthropological aspects of the area, and carrying out educational and awareness activities, training and scientific research.
