About the museum
The museum “Le energie del territorio” was established in Radicondoli, in the province of Siena, to present renewable energy and the relationship between the town and its geothermal resource, which is a real wealth of the area. It was opened in February 2004 in a renovated historic building.
The display is conceived as a laboratory. Teaching panels and working models, which visitors can operate, show how a natural phenomenon is transformed into mechanical or electrical energy. A short documentary explains geothermal energy, and the equipment used to search for and exploit the hot fluids underground is displayed, together with a representation of rock strata down to more than 4,000 m in depth.
Guided tours can continue outdoors, to the Pianacce geothermal power station, the natural geothermal manifestations and the greenhouses heated by district heating. The aim is to raise awareness, above all among young people, of sustainable development and the responsible use of resources.
