About the museum

The Museo della Grande Guerra in Valle del Chiese was founded in the 1990s on the initiative of a group of enthusiastic friends and collects testimonies from the Adamello front. It is now run by the social promotion association “Museo Grande Guerra Valle del Chiese” and is part of the Rete Trentino Grande Guerra. It also works with the historical commission of the SAT. The museum is located in Bersone, in the municipality of Valdaone, and reopened in June 2019 with a completely renewed display.

The rooms are housed in reconstructions of wooden military huts and show soldiers' equipment and daily life at high altitude. The material comes mainly from the areas of Cadria, Nozzolo, Cima Pissola and Monte Melino, and from the Adamello glaciers: original uniforms, Italian, Austro-Hungarian and British helmets, rifles, mines, hand grenades and shells of various calibres, alongside an archive of texts, documents and photographs.

The exhibition also includes reconstructions of high-mountain positions, both Italian and Austrian. Outside stands an Italian Ansaldo-Schneider 105 mm cannon. To complete the visit, guided excursions to the nearby forts of the Lardaro barrier (Forte Larino and Forte Corno) can be booked.
