About the museum
Casa Marascalchi is in the historic centre of Quartinago, a hamlet of Cimego, now in the municipality of Borgo Chiese. It is a museum of rural life that lets visitors rediscover the roots of the people of the Valle del Chiese. The house, lived in until the early 1990s, has been restored and opened to the public, keeping its original rooms and objects.
The visit is a journey through time over five floors. In the basement are the cellar and the stable. On the ground floor are the typical peasant kitchen, with the old open hearth and the more recent kitchen range, and the carpenter’s workshop with bench and tools for maintaining the house. On the first floor are the bedrooms and the room dedicated to silkworm rearing and weaving. On the second floor a large open space was used to haul up firewood, brushwood bundles, straw, hay and grain with a pulley, while the attic served as additional storage.
Casa Marascalchi is open thanks to the willingness of some volunteers and, on certain occasions, hosts guided tours organised by the association La Fusina.
