About the museum
The museum in Capovalle holds testimonies of the wars of both the First and the Second World War, with particular attention to the Great War on the front along Lake Idro. In the 1990s Giuseppe Lombardi, known as Peppino, set out to gather material and create a museum on Monte Stino, where one of the military tunnels was adopted as an exhibition space and soon attracted many visitors.
Due to several thefts, the objects were moved to a safer place. To preserve them better, the municipality had a small museum set up in the centre of the village, where uniforms, weapons, utensils and equipment for the provisioning of soldiers are on display.
The visit route is completed by the remains of the emplacements and trenches on Monte Stino, a few minutes’ drive from the village: tunnels and trenches built to control Lake Idro.
