About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Don Pietro Porta, a priest and botanist born in Moerna, a hamlet of Valvestino, and the first scholar of the valley’s flora. It is housed in the former communal cheese dairy at the entrance to the village, a building where the milk of the various herders was processed in turn.
On the upper floor a route is devoted to the scholar, to his collections of dried plants, which he prepared himself, and to the plant landscape of Valvestino. On the ground floor the interior architecture of the dairy has been preserved: the rooms where milk was turned into dairy products are an integral part of the visit. The initiative, promoted within the GardaMusei network, aims to revive the botanical traditions of the area and rediscover the manual skills linked to flowers and herbs.
