About the museum
The Museo della Liberazione di Ancona is located in the historic centre of Offagna, in Via dell'Arengo, and is part of the Polo Museale of the village. It tells the story of the Second World War in the Marche, from the devastation of the conflict to the hope of reconstruction, through extensive photographic documentation displayed along the corridors and a collection of war relics.
A central theme is the little-known collaboration between the soldiers of the II Polish Corps and the people of the Marche. These troops were tasked with liberating the port of Ancona, and during the advance they found decisive help from partisans and local civilians. The museum thus commemorates not only the commanders, but also the faces and stories of ordinary people.
Among the exhibits are a detailed model of one of the battles fought near Offagna, a gas mask issued to civilians, and the boots of a soldier from the Marche who, having fled the German army, used them to return home.
