About the museum
The Museo di scienze naturali Luigi Paolucci is housed in the complex of the former Monastero di Santa Zita in Offagna and is named after the Ancona naturalist Luigi Paolucci (1849–1935). The collections arise from a life of study and field research and document the biodiversity and geological history of the Marche.
The route is divided into several sections: the palaeontological and mineralogical collections illustrate the geological evolution of the territory with notable fossils, while the botanical and zoological sections, with historic herbaria and faunal specimens, show the environmental richness of the region, with particular attention to the Conero area. A detailed reconstruction presents the fauna of the Marche from the sea to the mountains.
The display is clear and educational, suitable for all ages, and the museum is a reference point for science outreach and for schools. The youngest visitors can explore the rooms with an audioguide designed specially for them.
