Ceramics by Laura Lippera that reproduce, with great realism, sweets, stuffed pasta and Pizza Rossini. The works translate the laden tables of eighteenth-century still life into three dimensions.
About the museum
The idea of a museum of maritime culture in Pesaro was born in 1982, mainly thanks to Professor Washington Patrignani, a scholar of naval history and technology. The first display opened in 1988 as the Museo del Mare at Villa Molaroni and remained open until 2002, when the villa was declared unfit for use and closed to the public.
The villa, surrounded by a park of more than 8,000 square metres, was built in 1924 for Giuseppe Molaroni to a design by Riccardo Silenzi, and was transferred by the heirs to the Comune di Pesaro in 1970. The museum occupies three levels (basement, ground floor and first floor) and, after a long renovation, reopened in June 2007 under its new name, dedicated to Washington Patrignani.
The museum was renewed with the aim of going beyond a purely ethnographic approach: alongside the objects, it presents historical research and documentary sources, so that seafaring, its people and its boats move from the realm of folklore into that of history. The route is divided into six rooms: shipwrecks and wrecks, boat types, harbour trades, fishing techniques, seafaring people, and master shipwrights (maestri d’ascia) and shipyards. The offer also includes a film archive (cineteca) and a link with the Ecomuseo del Litorale Pesarese. The museum is now part of the Pesaro Musei circuit.
