About the museum
The first proposals for a committee dedicated to restoring the fortifications of the Gothic Line date back to 1995. This commitment led to the founding of the museum in the main town of Borgo a Mozzano. It complements visits to the routes along the Gothic Line fortifications, which consist of tunnels, bunkers and positions dug into the rock.
The section on wartime memory holds material largely donated by private citizens. Alongside it is a local archaeological collection with Ligurian and Etruscan finds: material from Foci di Gello, a Ligurian tomb from Piano della Rocca (1974), remains from the Antro della Paura at Gioviano (7th–3rd century BC), and human remains from the Pastino, probably early medieval.
The museum also includes graphic documentation on the Via Clodia, reconstructions of local fauna and a mineral collection. On request, guided visits are organised to the Gothic Line fortifications and to monuments in the area, such as the Ponte del Diavolo (Devil's Bridge), the pievi (rural parish churches), convents, hermitages and the fortifications of the Republic of Lucca.
