About the museum
The Museo del Vecchio Mulino occupies an old water mill restored by volunteers, in the outlying part of Roccavione near the railway. The three millstones and the gears show how a pre-industrial water mill worked to produce flour.
The ethnographic section includes a reconstruction of a shoemaker’s workshop and evidence of past trades and of people’s relationship with their environment. A natural science area is devoted to botany and mycology, with displays that change periodically.
Millstones of this type were also used to grind seeds, pigments, and cosmetic and pharmaceutical products to a very fine powder.
