About the museum
The museum was established in 1975 by Bishop Giulio Oggioni in the palatine chapel of the Bishop's Palace of Lodi, next to the cathedral, and inaugurated in 1980. It holds paintings, frescoes, sculptures, vestments and goldsmiths' work from the bishopric and from the parishes of the diocese, including objects from the so-called treasure of San Bassiano.
On 17 January 2026 a second site was inaugurated in the former church of San Cristoforo, built around 1300 and rebuilt to a design by Pellegrino Tibaldi for the Olivetan monks. Here the larger space made it possible to set up a permanent route arranged radially around the central nave and the presbytery.
At the heart of the route is the Pala dell’Assunta (Altarpiece of the Assumption) by Alberto Piazza, restored and reassembled. The sections tell of the Olivetans, the patron saint San Bassiano, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the family of painters from Lodi, the Piazza family, the convent of San Domenico, the Passion and death of Christ and the Incarnation. The site also hosts exhibitions, lectures and presentations of restorations.
