About the museum
The museum is part of the Istituto di Cultura Cimbra in Roana, founded in 1973 to research, document, preserve and promote the history and culture of the Cimbri, particularly on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. The Cimbri are a people of Germanic origin who settled on the plateau in the Middle Ages. The isolation of the area has allowed their language and traditions to survive to the present day.
The collection includes objects linked to the daily work of Cimbrian farmers, craftsmen and woodcutters, as well as household items reproduced in reduced scale. Photographic and literary documents are also on display, including poems in the Cimbrian language, religious works and texts of popular wisdom.
The building also houses the seat of the Institute, which carries out study, protection and dissemination of Cimbrian culture, and a specialist library. The museum is part of the Musei AltoVicentino network.
