Natural history museum of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni (Seven Municipalities plateau), with dioramas of pre-Alpine habitats and the collections of the naturalist Patrizio Rigoni.
Travelling exhibition on loan from the SAT, devoted to glaciers as a fragile environment and as an archive of past climate, with a look at the changes under way at high altitude.
About the museum
The museum holds and displays natural history evidence from the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. It was founded in 1999 thanks to the passion and donations of the teacher Patrizio Rigoni and was first completed in 2002, when the first educational and tourist offers began. In 2009 it was named after its inspiration, a teacher, researcher, taxidermist and photographer (1939–2008) and a great promoter of the plateau’s environment.
The current display is largely based on the finds collected by Rigoni: mainly birds and other taxidermied animals, rich entomological collections, and smaller groups of botany, mineralogy and palaeontology. Several specimens are presented in dioramas that recreate pre-Alpine habitats.
The museum focuses on scientific education and works with the environmental teaching laboratory of the municipality of Asiago, with an open-air museum across the plateau devoted to the First World War, and with forest plots left to natural development in the area. It is part of the Musei AltoVicentino network.
