About the museum

The Museo della Val Cavallina, also known as Cavellas, grew out of an idea of the Circolo Culturale OP of Casazza, which since 1997 had aimed to create a local ethnographic museum. With the involvement of the Municipality of Casazza and the Comunità Montana della Valle Cavallina, the project took shape: the exhibition space was set up on the ground floor of Palazzo Bettoni, on state road 42, and since October 2003 the museum has been regularly open to the public.

The display has a historical and environmental approach: each room is devoted to one of the resources that the inhabitants have used over the millennia, namely stone, water, plants and animals. Objects, historical photographs, reconstructions of use and documentation on the context of origin alternate within the rooms. Since 2019 the gallery has hosted a permanent exhibition on the lakes of Endine and Gaiano, the most characteristic environmental feature of the valley.

In 2015 the Cavellas archaeological area, a few hundred metres away, was opened to the public: the remains of a Roman village active from the 1st to the 6th century AD, preserved beneath a supermarket and buried for centuries by sediments from the Drione stream.
