About the museum
The Museo della Valle di Zogno was founded in 1979 by Vittorio Polli together with a group of enthusiasts of local culture. It is housed in the house of Cardinal Furietti, a building in the historic centre of Zogno on Via Mazzini, and occupies two floors. Today it is run by the Fondazione Polli-Stoppani.
The museum recalls and brings to life objects of the past, from everyday utensils to work tools, to show what life in the Val Brembana was like. The twelve rooms bring together evidence of the valley’s agricultural and peasant society: the blacksmith’s forge, the kitchen of old houses, the bedroom, pasture and fieldwork, milk processing, clogs, the cobbler and hunting, the village inn, household tools, candlesticks, games and the gramola (flax-breaking tool), looms, puppets, lamps and clocks, popular religiosity, and a space for temporary exhibitions and meetings.
The collection also includes archaeological finds from the Buca di Sant’Andrea, near the Grotte delle Meraviglie, dating from the mid-third millennium BC to the nineteenth century, and objects from more recent periods such as dresses, lace, furniture and traditional games.
