About the museum
The museum is part of the Resource Centre of the Istituto Comprensivo “Abate Gioacchino” in Celico, which hosts it in premises made available by the municipality. The display was curated by the Vagabondaggi group, which took its inspiration from the writer Norman Douglas, and is aimed in particular at students: illustrated panels, large photographs and explanatory cards accompany every section and every object.
An introductory section, based on paper and photographic material from the historic archive of ARSSA, tells the story of the development of the plateau and the birth of the rural village of Lagarò. The route continues with four thematic sections: the woods, with the seasonal felling of timber; the pastures, with transhumant livestock farming; the fields, with the cultivation of cereals and, from the early 19th century, potatoes; and the Casino Lupinacci, a 17th-century residence that was the first permanent home in Lagarò and documents traditional domestic life. The materials come from the Comune di Celico, ARSSA, the Sila National Park and private donations.
