About the museum
The Museo dello Stazzo e della Civiltà contadina was founded with the aim of rediscovering ancient traditions and reappraising the stazzo, the typical rural dwelling of Gallura. The stazzo replaced the older pinnettu: it was built of local stone bound with mud mortar and plastered with clay, had a beaten-earth floor with the hearth at the centre, and a double-pitched roof covered with reeds and tiles. It was a single room serving as both bedroom and kitchen.
The museum is in Piazza Einaudi, in the centre of Budoni, and is run by the local Pro Loco with the coordination of an archaeologist. The route is divided into three rooms: a photo room called “Come eravamo” (As We Were), which illustrates moments of everyday life and trades now gone among the people of Budoni and its villages; room 1, which reproduces the tool store; and room 2, which reconstructs the house.
Together with the Pro Loco, the museum promotes painting and photography exhibitions, book presentations and cultural events in the small square in front, especially in summer.
