About the museum
Casa Cordati, in the historic centre of Barga, is the home and studio of the painter Bruno Cordati (1890–1979). The artist worked in the building from the 1940s, when he rented some rooms on the first floor as a studio; at the beginning of the 1970s he bought the property, lived there and restored the roof.
Since 1994 the first floor has housed the permanent display of his works, spread over six rooms: his early works, including the “Chiccheri” and the “Figure in movimento” (figures in motion); paintings of female figures from the 1940s to the 1970s; the kitchen room with his later works, where his use of colour emerges; the “Sala bulgara” (Bulgarian room), with works connected with his stay in Bulgaria, still lifes and self-portraits; the room of landscapes; and the concert room with paintings on motherhood and portraits of children, including his daughter Bruna.
The guided visit also includes the frescoed roof terrace (altana) and the concert room, which offers a wide view. The house also hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists.
