About the museum
The museum arose from a project through which ARCUS S.p.A. promoted the recovery and restoration of the villages and historic monuments of the Valle del Serchio. Considering the processes of fortification and incastellamento (the rise of fortified castle settlements) that underpin the historical and cultural structure of the territory, the project did not limit itself to restoring individual sites, but virtually reconstructed the network, covering both the historical and architectural aspects and the links with the events of the valley.
The multimedia content was created by the Centro Interdisciplinare di ricerche e di servizi sulla Comunicazione (C.I.CO.) of the Dipartimento di Civiltà e forme del sapere of the Università di Pisa. Visitors find interactive tools to discover the great fortifications, villages, monuments, natural beauties, customs and ancient crafts, in a playful and immersive experience based on active participation.
