About the museum
The museum is located in Palmi, in the Casa della Cultura “Leonida Repaci”, and is named after the folklorist Raffaele Corso. It presents Calabrian folk traditions through thematic sections on the life cycle, the calendar of the year, folk art and pastoral life, agricultural and seafaring life, superstition, magic and popular religiosity.
Among the objects on display are apotropaic masks, traditional costumes, farm tools, a rich collection of distaffs (conocchie), sweet moulds, Nativity figures, wax ex-votos, sacred images and a large loom. One section recalls the Holy Saturday rite of the Vattienti of Nocera Terinese, with spiny cardoons and crowns, and the museum also houses the two giants Mata and Grifone. Panels and photographs accompany the route.
