About the museum
The museum is housed in the San Francesco convent complex in Faenza, next to the 18th-century church. The Friars Minor are documented in the city from 1231; the 13th-century Gothic church, dated 1271, was rebuilt between 1740 and 1757 to a design by the Faenza master builders Raffaele Campidori and Giovan Battista Boschi and is a significant example of late Baroque in Faenza.
The collections consist of sacred furnishings and liturgical objects from the convent church, dating from the 17th to the 19th century: wooden furnishings, vestments and textiles, paintings and objects of worship. In addition there are 18th- and 19th-century votive offerings that document popular devotion to Saint Anthony of Padua, the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Sorrows. A rich ensemble linked to the cult of the Immaculate Conception, present in the church since 1523, is also documented.
