About the museum
The diocesan museum of Chioggia occupies a building erected in the late 1990s that is joined to the bishop's palace, of 15th-century origin. It was opened to the public on 23 December 2002 to preserve, enhance and make known the historic and artistic heritage from the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and from the diocese.
The visit is divided into four sections: a historical section on the origins and development of the local community; an iconographic section, with paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 18th century; a section of sacred goldsmith's work, with chalices and crosses in silver and gold from the churches of the diocese and the cathedral treasury; and a section devoted to the Chioggia painter Aristide Naccari, with paintings and graphic works.
The museum has a branch in the church and picture gallery of the Santissima Trinità in Chioggia.
