About the museum
The Diocesan Museum of Chiavari, founded in 1984, is housed on the first floor of the Palazzo Vescovile, built between 1833 and 1836. The route occupies five rooms that once housed the seminary library.
The collections include paintings, sculptures, silverware and textiles from churches still in use as well as from religious complexes that no longer exist. Among the best-known works is the Madonna del Buon Viaggio by Lorenzo Fasolo, from the church of San Nicolò dell’Isola near Sestri Levante.
Also on display are sacred vestments from Zoagli and Lorsica, textile production centres active since the 18th century, and a collection of ex-votos from the sanctuary-cathedral of Nostra Signora dell’Orto.
