About the museum
The Pinacoteca diocesana di arte sacra of Senigallia was established by decree of Bishop Odo Fusi Pecci in February 1992 and opened to the public in May of the same year. It is housed on the piano nobile of the Episcopio, at Piazza Garibaldi 3, in the apartment called “del Cardinale” (of the Cardinal), because it was the residence of the cardinal-bishops of Senigallia.
Access is by a staircase in the style of Vanvitelli, and one enters the throne room, from which a sequence of large decorated halls begins that house the collection. Canvases by Federico Barocci, Andrea Lilli, Giovanni Antonio Donducci, Ercole Ramazzani, Cesare Guerrieri, Palma il Giovane and other artists are displayed, together with richly worked silverware and vestments.
The picture gallery is part of the Happy Museum network of the Marche Region. In summer, from June to August, the windows of the Episcopio allow visitors in the square to admire Barocci’s Madonna of the Rosary in the evening.
