About the museum
The Palazzetto Baviera was built by Giovanni Giacomo Baviera between the late 15th century and the first decade of the 16th century, perhaps to a design by Baccio Pontelli. It faces Piazza del Duca and is characterised by a small courtyard with a portico, which echoes the forms of the cloister of the Grazie convent, and by a central well decorated with the family's coats of arms.
The Baviera family owned it until 1956, when they gave it to the Comune di Senigallia together with its furnishings. The palace is managed by the municipality as part of the city's museum circuit.
The main attraction is the piano nobile (main floor), where the artist Federico Brandani, from Urbino, created the stucco ceilings of five rooms, with battle scenes, biblical stories and historical episodes dedicated to imperial Rome, republican Rome, the Iliad, Hercules and the Old Testament. According to the Comune, the stucco rooms are currently closed for restoration.
