About the museum
The Museo diocesano e della cattedrale was set up in 2002 in the chapel of San Tobia, built in 1528 on the right flank of the cathedral of San Giovanni Battista in Cesena. It holds works of art, liturgical furnishings and sacred vestments, mainly from the cathedral.
Among the works on display are a Madonna enthroned adoring the sleeping Infant Jesus by Giovanni Francesco da Rimini, from the 15th century, and Saint John the Baptist with an angel by Benedetto Gennari, from the 17th century.
The museum has five branches in the diocese: the museums of sacred art of Bagno di Romagna (Madonna del Carmine), Mercato Saraceno (Madonna della Vita), Longiano, Sarsina and Ranchio.
