About the museum
The museum was founded in 1985 thanks to the donation of several works by the Catanian sculptor Emilio Greco to the town of Sabaudia, where the artist lived for many years and where he is buried. The exhibition spaces occupy the ground floor of the Palazzo Comunale and were renovated and extended in 2001 to a design by Giulio Savio.
From the initial core, the collection has grown over the years and now comprises more than one hundred works, including sculptures, prints, engravings, coins, medals and archive materials. It documents the artist’s activity between 1947 and 1984. Among the sculptures are the model for the central door of the Orvieto Cathedral (1962), the Grande Bagnante n. 1 (1956) and Maria Baldassarre (1956).
Other museums dedicated to Emilio Greco are located in Orvieto and Catania.
