About the museum
The museum is located in Piazza del Quadrato, in the building that housed the Opera Nazionale Combattenti (National Veterans' Agency), the body that founded Latina and the other reclamation towns. The display originates from research begun in 1991 by the association “Don Vincenzo Onorati” and is largely due to private donations.
The route, with more than a thousand finds, traces the 20th century of the Agro Pontino: from the settlers who came from the Veneto, Friuli and Emilia-Romagna to free the land from stagnant waters, to the founding of Littoria, today's Latina. The five sections deal with the period before reclamation, the fight against malaria (with materials from the provincial anti-malaria committee donated by the ASL, the local health authority), agricultural transformation, the daily life of the pioneer and an art section. Rooms such as the doctor's surgery and a workshop are reconstructed; reclamation tools can be seen in the garden.
