About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Francesco Bande (1930–1988), a native of Bultei, accordion and organ player, composer and promoter of Sardinian musical traditions. It is housed in a recently restored early 20th-century building in via Muroni in Sassari.
The collection includes bridal, everyday and widow’s costumes from various areas of the island (Goceano, Logudoro, Meilogu, Anglona, Romangia and Nuorese) and a collection of musical instruments typical of Sardinia, in particular diatonic accordions. Accordions reached the island at the beginning of the 20th century; the first one belonged to Mario Bande of Orani, the father of Francesco.
The museum also offers live performances of traditional music and the chance to learn how to play the instruments.
