About the museum
The MUS! Museo di Livigno e Trepalle is housed in an old residence in Livigno, a late 18th-century building on four floors, built of stone unlike the typical wooden houses of the village. Through the faithful reconstruction of domestic interiors and some thematic sections, the route shows the spirit of adaptation of the inhabitants, who over the centuries built a fragile balance during a long isolation, and explains how the present was reached.
The museum tells the story of the house’s last occupants, Domenica Bormolini and Enrico Silvestri, presents the traditional rooms, including the sc’tua, the kitchen with the cendré (the hearth, with the copper pot for processing milk) and the room for dairy products, and devotes a section to Livigno and its territory. Most of the collections come from a fund donated to the Comune in 1998, with furniture, family portraits, everyday objects and documents. The museum is part of the Sistema museale Valtellina.
