About the museum
The Museo Etnografico Sipontino, in the hamlet of Siponto in Manfredonia, documents the life and culture of the Siponto area in four sections.
The first is devoted to town life: the house, with objects from the bedroom and kitchen; traditions, including religious objects, games and domestic arts; and arts and trades, from baker to shoemaker, from blacksmith to cooper. The second is dedicated to the culture of the land and rural settings: the grotto, the straw shed (pagliaio), the “torre” and the masseria. The third illustrates life at sea, with boats, nets, tools for making and repairing them, fossils and a collection of shells. The fourth gathers dialect texts, stories, dialogues and folk songs that preserve the terms actually used.
