About the museum
The Padre Pio waxworks museum was created in 2001 by the company Florence Museum Project in collaboration with the Comune di San Giovanni Rotondo. It is housed in Palazzo Morcaldi, in the historic centre near the sanctuary of San Pio da Pietrelcina, once the home of Francesco Morcaldi, a former mayor and friend of Padre Pio who worked to keep the friar in the town.
The route includes ten life-size wax scenes by the artist Cristian Biasci, chosen with the contribution of the Capuchin friars and a commission of historians and representatives of the Comune. They recreate episodes from the saint’s life, such as the stigmata, the encounter with Fra Camillo and his death.
