About the museum
The museum occupies the birthplace of Ignazio Silone in Pescina, restored with the support of the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale and opened on 10 September 2020. The display was funded by the Abruzzo Region and the Regional Council, while the restoration of the building was co-financed by the Comune di Pescina.
The route, which is historical, documentary and bibliographical in character, follows Silone’s literary output and presents him as an intellectual, politician, journalist and human being. Some rooms recreate his study and small sitting room, with furnishings and objects from his Roman home in Via di Villa Ricotti; the kitchen and bedroom, by contrast, are furnished with objects from the early 20th century.
Documents, photographs and books come largely from the Archivio Silone, donated to the Comune di Pescina on 1 May 2000 by his widow, Darina Laracy Silone. The route also recalls decisive moments in the writer’s life, such as the Marsica earthquake of 1915, in which he lost his mother. The building also houses the archive and the library.
