About the museum
The museum is named after Giacomo Pomili (1925–1997), a naïf painter from Grottammare who signed his works with the nickname “Il Tarpato”, an allusion to the forced limitation of his possibilities, like a bird with clipped wings. It was founded in 2013 and renovated in 2021, and is housed in a building in the old town, in Piazza Peretti, where the artist had exhibited his paintings.
The museum holds a large collection of Pomili's paintings. The route is arranged over two floors, each devoted to a different theme: on the upper floor, the artist's relationship with naïf painting and spontaneous art; on the lower floor, his interest in the history and folklore of Grottammare, with references to the historical themes of the old town and to the fairy tales of popular tradition.
