About the museum
The museum was opened in 2004 in Sermoneta, a medieval village in the Lepini mountains, and is housed in the 16th-century Palazzo Ada Caetani, on the main street of the village. It occupies three rooms on the ground floor and presents a simple display with illustrative panels.
The route traces ceramic production from prehistory to the 20th century and presents examples from the main centres of Italian majolica, including Deruta, Viterbo, Faenza and Caltagirone. One section is devoted to the grave goods of the Caracupa necropolis, with tableware, votive terracotta objects and bricks.
The material comes partly from the donation of a collector of Sermoneta origin and partly from the heritage authority (Soprintendenza archeologica) of Lazio.
