About the museum
The mineralogical museum of Bortigiadas arose from the donation to the municipality of a collection by the collector Giuseppe Tanca. It is run by the municipality and offers an overview of the minerals of Gallura, including rare species.
The display cases hold more than 700 samples, largely of species found in Sardinia and in particular in Gallura, with a few specimens from abroad. The minerals listed include allanite, babingtonite, beryl, bertrandite, bismoclite, hingganite, kamphaugite and scheelite. Many come from well-known local sites, such as Cala Francese on La Maddalena and the Furru and Conca quarries in Calangianus.
