About the museum
The museum is housed in the Torre San Vittorio, an 18th-century building in Carloforte, restored and opened as an exhibition space in 2016. The tower stands just outside the centre, beyond the salt pans, in the Spalmadureddu area.
The display was created in collaboration with the Museo del Mare e delle Migrazioni di Genova and uses touchscreens and 3D simulations to tell the story of San Pietro island, from its geological origins to the settlement of the Tabarchini community in 1738.
The route is spread over three floors: the ground floor is devoted to the island’s geological formation, the second floor to prehistory and ancient history, from the Nuragic to the Roman period, and the third floor to more recent events up to the arrival of the Tabarchini. The visit lasts about 45 minutes and ends on a 360° panoramic terrace on the top floor.
