About the museum
The Museo Tattile Statale Omero was established on 29 May 1993 by the Comune di Ancona; the idea had arisen in 1985 from Aldo Grassini and Daniela Bottegoni. In 1999 it was recognised as a state museum by Law no. 452, and since 2012 it has had its permanent seat in the Mole Vanvitelliana.
The museum is designed to be touched: the works are plaster and fibreglass copies of classical masterpieces, architectural models and original contemporary sculptures. Over 200 works are displayed on the second and third floors of the Mole, in a display that is still provisional.
The Collezione Design, inaugurated on 18 December 2021, is a multisensory space with 32 icons of Italian design. The museum also offers consultancy and tiflo-didactic services (educational services for blind and partially sighted people).
