About the museum
The museum opened in July 2018 and is the first archaeological museum in the Valle Trompia. It is housed in the Antico Broletto di Mondaro, a 15th-century building with a medieval tower; excavations in 1996 date the tower to after 1220 and the ground-floor portal to the 14th century. The name OrMA stands for Officina, Radici, Museo, Archeologia.
The archaeological rooms trace the settlement of the valley from the Mesolithic to the 7th century AD and include a rare crouched Neolithic burial, the presence of the Triumplini and materials from the Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the Roman period. The displays also bring together finds from three local collectors: Pietro Paolo Cotelli, Pierluigi Piotti and Costanzo Caim.
In the medieval tower is set up the ethnographic collection “Saperi della Montagna” by Costanzo Caim. The museum organises guided visits from the Neolithic to the Roman period and educational workshops, including the ARCHEOLAB.
