About the museum

The museum opened on 4 September 1988 under the name “Casa Museo Raggruppamento Divisioni Patrioti Alfredo di Dio”, at the wish of a group of partisans known as “azzurri” (blues), after the colour of their neckerchiefs: the fighters of the Valtoce Division, commanded by Captain Alfredo Di Dio, who fell in 1944. Thanks to contributions from figures of the Resistance, above all Eugenio Cefis, the last commander of the Valtoce Division, the association bought the building, fitted it out with the voluntary work of its members and handed it over to the municipality of Ornavasso while keeping its management.

The museum was founded to pass on the memory and the ideal legacy of the liberation struggle. It holds a rich collection of texts, photographs, manuscripts, documents and objects on the partisan formations and on the lives of the young people of the Alto Novarese who sacrificed their youth and their lives. The display is modern and, thanks to digitisation, the material can also be consulted online in the association’s digital library.

The Associazione Raggruppamento Divisioni Patrioti Alfredo di Dio has a second seat in Busto Arsizio, at Villa Tovaglieri, where part of the historical archive and other objects are kept.
