About the museum
The museum is based in San Vito al Tagliamento, at Palazzo Altan, and is named after Diogene Penzi. It presents objects and documents of rural life in the Pordenone area, with an exhibition route of eleven rooms illustrating the system of production and the settings of rural life.
One space follows another: objects for childhood, means of transport, silkworm rearing and hay-making, working the land, with a rich collection of ploughs, woodworking and ironworking, and maize production.
The museum was part of a provincial system that also included two outposts: one at Maniago, devoted to craft woodworking and ironworking, and one at Cavasso Nuovo, devoted to work and emigration. Today the Cavasso Nuovo section is the Museo dell’Emigrazione, while the theme of iron is documented at Maniago by the Museo dell’Arte Fabbrile e delle Coltellerie. Management is the responsibility of the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
